Founder and Executive Director of Familias Unidas Counseling Center

Who is Amanda Banda?

“Hello everyone!

I am Amanda Banda, the founder of Familias Unidas Counseling Center. I immigrated to the United States with my family, and I know firsthand how difficult it is to be an immigrant. Like many of you, I arrived with a small suitcase and the hope of achieving the American Dream. My mother worked hard in a factory to pay for my education, and with a lot of effort from both of us, I graduated three times from the prestigious University of Southern California (USC).”

An immigration psychological evaluation is a clinical assessment conducted for legal purposes. It may help document emotional, psychological, or trauma-related factors relevant to an immigration case.

These evaluations are commonly used in:
• Extreme Hardship Waivers
• Asylum Cases
• VAWA Petitions
• U-Visas / T-Visas
• Cancellation of Removal

Immigration psychological evaluations are not therapy and do not establish an ongoing therapeutic relationship.

Our role is to:
• Conduct a clinical interview
• Assess psychological functioning
• Document relevant symptoms and experiences
• Provide a professional clinical opinion
• Prepare a psychological report for legal use

We do not:
• Provide legal advice
• Determine eligibility for immigration relief
• Recommend which type of evaluation you need
• Guarantee case outcomes
• Provide court testimony or appear as expert witnesses

Clients must come informed about the specific type of evaluation they are seeking (e.g., asylum, hardship waiver, VAWA, U-Visa, etc.), typically with guidance from their attorney.

We are not attorneys and cannot advise on what type of evaluation is appropriate for your case.

All legal decisions are made by your attorney and immigration authorities.

We aim to provide a clear and supportive experience:

  1. Schedule Your Evaluation
Appointments are conducted virtually and scheduled promptly without waitlists.
  2. Clinical Interview
A detailed interview is conducted to understand your history, possible trauma, and current concerns.
  3. Report Preparation
A psychological report is prepared based on your self-report, clinical observations, and any supporting documentation.
  4. Opportunity to Review
Clients are typically given the opportunity to review the report and notify us of any factual corrections or questions.
  5. Authorization for Release
Clients provide authorization before the report is released to their attorney or legal representative.
  6. Report Submission
The report is securely sent to the authorized party.

We strive to support client understanding throughout the process.

  • When a client prefers a language other than English, we make reasonable efforts to:
o Review key aspects of the report in the client’s preferred language, and/or
o Use a qualified interpreter when appropriate

Clients are responsible for:
• Providing accurate and complete information
• Notifying us of any factual corrections or concerns
• Asking questions if any part of the report is unclear

Information shared during the evaluation is treated with professional care; however:

  • The report is prepared for legal use
    • It may be shared with attorneys, immigration authorities, and courts

We do not guarantee any immigration outcome.

  • Extensive experience with immigration evaluations
    • Trauma-informed and culturally responsive care
    • Clear, structured, and clinically grounded reports
    • Ethical and professional standards
    • Over 9,000 reports completed
    • Exceptional customer service — check out our Google reviews
    • Fully virtual services available nationwide
    • No waitlists — prompt scheduling

We understand that this process can feel overwhelming. Our goal is to make it as clear and supportive as possible.
