Psychological Evaluations
for Immigration
We conduct psychological evaluations for immigration cases. These evaluations can be for VAWA, asylum, U-Visa, or hardship cases. The purpose of these evaluations is to document the mental health conditions and diagnoses and to describe how a potential deportation would impact a client and their family. Evaluations are provided in English and Spanish.

Special
Offer
To those clients applying for U-Visas and VAWA.
We will help them apply for Victims of Crime Funding to receive psychotherapy at no cost to them. The benefit of receiving psychotherapy is that the client would have the chance to process their trauma and they will receive a letter from Victims of Crime acknowledging that they were the victims of a crime which reinstates their reason for applying for a U-Visa.
Clients who need psychotherapy, but can’t afford it, could receive psychotherapy through our USC interns.

Founder and Executive Director of Familias Unidas Counseling Center
Who is Amanda Banda?
“Hello everyone!
I am Amanda Banda, the founder of Familias Unidas Counseling Center. I immigrated to the United States with my family, and I know firsthand how difficult it is to be an immigrant. Like many of you, I arrived with a small suitcase and the hope of achieving the American Dream. My mother worked hard in a factory to pay for my education, and with a lot of effort from both of us, I graduated three times from the prestigious University of Southern California (USC).”
My three degrees from USC are:
Bachelor’s degree in Psychology (BA)
Master’s in Social Work (MSW)
Doctorate in Educational Psychology and Leadership (Ed.D)
I also hold a license to provide mental health services (LCSW) in California, Texas, and Florida.
I am the founder and Executive Director of Familias Unidas Counseling Center.
A Woman of Many Talents:
To achieve my goal of becoming a mental health professional, I worked and studied for many years. I worked as a waitress, dishwasher, in factories cutting threads, in jewelry stores, and restaurants—I was a jack-of-all-trades, just like many of you.
I also worked for the Department of Mental Health (DMH), providing psychotherapy and conducting mental health evaluations. I collaborated with the SMART program, which, together with the Los Angeles County Police, conducted mental health assessments to determine patients' severity. Additionally, I worked with the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS).
All of this life and work experience taught me that there was a need for a clinic offering services in Spanish with flexible hours, low costs, and accessible to minorities like all of us. That’s why Familias Unidas was born—a center for our community!
At Familias Unidas Counseling Center, we provide psychotherapy to crime victims and specialize in psychological evaluations for immigration cases. We have conducted over 5,000 evaluations and collaborated with more than 400 law offices.
Hundreds of satisfied clients have rated us on Google. I invite you to check our ratings!
When people ask me if I have achieved my American Dream, I respond: "I’m working on it... My life mission is to continue serving my community with humility and excellence!"
